Decatur ~ Richard Timothy Rieger, 66, went to be with our Lord Thursday, November 3, 2016 in Decatur.
Services will be Sunday, November 6 th , 2:00 at First United Methodist Church in Decatur. Visitation will be Saturday at 6:30 at the home of Eric Rieger.
Dr Brian Bosworth and Rev. Joe Ed Goolsby will officiate. Pallbearers include Gage Rieger, Mack Rieger, Stephen Manning, William Manning,Walker Black, Rusty Cox, Tanner Searight, Kyle Searight and Scott Black. Honorary pallbearers are Kurt Gehring, Gary Prescott, Ted Taylor, Donnie Baker, Rick Poe, Thom Lambert, Bob Cheatham, Emmett Rieger and Mark Wiley.
Richard Timothy “Tim” Rieger was born June 21, 1950 to R. T. and Elizabeth Donehoo Rieger in Decatur, TX. He was educated in Decatur schools, then went to Texas Tech University to major in telecommunications. Sally Searight Rieger married Tim May 11, 1974 in Amarillo, TX.
Tim has had a varied career, beginning with news director and manager of KGAF radio in Gainesville. He also worked for various banks, ending his career with Federal Home Loan Bank, where he was a collateral analyst.
Civic pride and love of family sparked his interest in community activities. Tim served as a city councilman and Mayor ProTem for Gainesville. He was also a president of Gainesville Boys and Girls Club for several terms, Lions Club of Decatur, Jaycees in Gainesville, and the Optimist Club where he also was elected Lieutenant Governor. The Gainesville Booster Club was another interest where he was also president. Tim loved serving breakfasts in his home to the football teams his sons played on. He coached various soccer and baseball teams for his sons as well.
Tim was part of the Spirit of Christmas, Wreaths Across America, administrative boards of Whaley United Methodist Church and First United Methodist of Decatur. After moving back to Decatur, Tim was chairman of Planning and Zoning and Economic Development. Tim and Sally helped bring CASA to Wise County.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving family; includes Sally, his wife, sons Eric, and his wife Marie, and Brad, and his wife Jenny. His grandsons are Gage, Mack, and Emmett. Tim’s sister is Cynthia DesRoches and niece Lori Black Manning and nephew, Scott Black. There is also a cherished extended family of great nephews and nieces, plus his in-laws.
Donations should be directed to Gainesville Boys and Girls Club, Raquel’ s Wings of Decatur, or the charity of your choice.
