Robert Hugh "Bob" Endres, 82, formerly of Alvord, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, July 9th in Clifton, Texas.

Funeral service is 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12th at the First United Methodist Church of Alvord with the Reverend Bob Wilson and Reverend Ed Cherryholmes officiating. Interment will follow at the Alvord Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Pallbearers are Earl Ashford, Charles French, Brian Brookhouse and members of the Wise County Veteran's Group.

Bob was born June 8, 1926 near Thomas, Oklahoma to Leo Henry and Audrey Maude (Hoyt) Endres. He graduated from Custer City High School, Custer, Oklahoma. He entered the Army in 1944 and served as a driver for the Regimental Commander during the Occupation of Japan.

He married Betty Chase on February 5, 1947, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In 1950, while working for Cook's Paint Company in Little Rock, Arkansas, he was recalled from reserve status to active duty in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and was stationed at Warner-Robbins Air Force Base in Georgia. The family returned to Oklahoma City in 1952 where Bob graduated from Oklahoma City University in 1956 with a degree in Industrial Arts. In 1963 the family moved to Alvord where he worked with automobile and farm equipment dealerships.

In 1973 Bob re-entered the Army Reserve program and was for several years an instructor in the 4159 USAR School in Fort Worth. He attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and retired in August, 1988 as the oldest enlisted reservist in the United States. He received two achievement awards and the Army Commendation Medal.

After attending auctioneer school in the early 1980's, Bob became very active with the local auction business and often volunteered his service at church and school functions.

Bob is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Betty Endres and his sister, Evelyn Matthews.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughters, Kathy Endres and husband, Beau Crosby of Woodway, Texas and Doris Flora and husband, Mike of Alvord; sons, Marshall Endres and wife, Donna of Decatur and Greg Endres and wife, Pat of Alvord, 4 granddaughters, Lesley Goodson, Meagan and Rachel Endres and Ralene Schilt; 4 step-grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

The family request that memorials be made to the Meals on Wheels Program of the First United Methodist Church of Alvord, 100 W. Washington, Alvord, Texas 76225.
