Richard Kelley

September 5, 1940 — February 13, 2025

Richard Henry Kelley, 84, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in Haltom City, Texas, after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Born on September 5, 1940, in Decatur, Texas, Richard was the beloved son of Henry and Mildred Kelley. From an early age, he embodied kindness, integrity, and a tireless work ethic. He graduated as valedictorian from Paradise High School in 1958, then continued his education at Decatur Baptist College before earning his degree from North Texas State University.

For 38 years, Richard dedicated his life to shaping young minds, serving as a teacher, vice principal, counselor, and school administrator in Birdville Independent School District. His passion for education was matched only by his deep love for his students and colleagues, whom he mentored and encouraged with unwavering patience and wisdom.

A man of strong faith, Richard was a lifelong servant of Christ. As a faithful member and deacon of North Pointe Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas, he dedicated himself to his church family and community, always leading by example with love, humility, and generosity.

In July of 1962, Richard married the love of his life, Patsy Ownsbey, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their marriage was a testament to faith and partnership, spanning 62 joyful years. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Russell and Kimberly, and later delighted in the joys of grandparenthood.

Richard and Patsy shared a love of adventure, traveling the world hand in hand. They visited all 50 states, embarked on countless cruises, and created memories that will be cherished for generations. He was also an avid sports fan, faithfully cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Mavericks, always believing in the next great season. A master of words and wisdom, he never met a crossword puzzle he couldn’t solve.

Above all, Richard was a man of love—he loved his family fiercely and unconditionally. He was a steady, guiding presence, and was always ready to provide a quiet moment of reassurance. His legacy of faith, kindness, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy; his son, Russell Kelley and wife, Bryana, of Hutchinson, Kansas; his daughter, Kimberly Urbina and husband, Alex, of North Richland Hills; his adored grandchildren, Marshall (Morgan) Kelley, Zane (Amy) Harrington, Chandler (Jacob) Stoughton, Kaylie (Cody) Molloy, and Madeline Urbina; and his precious great-grandchildren: Taylen, Raylie, Lanie, Beck, Calloway, Kai, Corbin, and Jayce. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Lou Urban and husband, Harvey, of Haltom City; several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of dear friends whose lives he touched.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025, at North Pointe Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Paradise Cemetery in Paradise, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at North Pointe Baptist Church.

Richard’s presence was a gift, his love a blessing, and his memory a treasure. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered with joy and gratitude.
