Decatur ~ Robert Melvin Nelson, 93, a retired logistics expediter, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, February 3, 2016 in Decatur.
Memorial service is 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2016, at Community Church in Decatur. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
John Redfearn and Philip Nelson will officiate.
Robert was born on October 8, 1922 to Lawrence and Lois (Spicer) Nelson in Wapato, Washington. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Crabtree on August 7, 1948 in Seattle, Washington. Robert served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from GTE.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn Nelson; his brother; his sister.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Diana Howe and husband Richard of Decatur; his son, Melvin Nelson and wife Virginia of Decatur; 6 grandchildren, Christa Franklin and husband Ron, Jeremy Nelson and wife Sara, Philip Nelson and wife Leah, Amber Webster and husband Christopher, Jason Howe and wife Melissa, and Jessica Lam and husband Kevin; 8 great grandchildren; his sister, Dora Getsinger; his brother, John Nelson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
