Roland Upton

Decatur ~ Roland Upton, 70, went to be with our Lord Thursday, June 28, 2018 in Decatur.

Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Boyd with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Boyd.

Rev. Mark Autry will officiate. Pallbearers include Todd Ihnfeldt, Chris Caster, John Galloway, Craig Kinney, Rick Wilson and Chase Wilson.

Roland was born on July 30, 1947 to Elbert and Mary (Skipper) Upton in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was united in marriage to Joyce Ann Gilkerson on May 1, 1968 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Roland was a retired customer service agent for Braniff Airlines. He had a passion for music. Roland loved his church, working on vehicles with his grandchildren and family time. Roland was a member of the First Baptist Church of Boyd.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Eugene Upton.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Joyce Ann Upton of Decatur; his son, Jerry Upton and wife Anne of Paradise; his daughter, Tanya Wilson and husband Rick of Decatur; his grandchildren, Lane and Cheyanne, Tara, Colton, Preston, Dalton and Chase; his great grandchildren, Christian and Emerson; his brothers, Carl Upton and wife Cheryl, Robert Upton and wife Rita; his sisters, Louise Steirer and husband Larry, Ella Mae Harris and husband Alex  numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
