Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at the First United Methodist Church of Decatur, Rev. Johnny Irish and Rev. Roy Spore to officiate, with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will recieve friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Pallbearers: Will Klose, Derrick Boyd, Ronny Gettys, Gary Prescott, Denny Aldridge, and Loyd Jackson.
Honorary Pallbearers: Billy Wiley, J.E. Carson, Sam Renshaw, Roy Eaton, Bobby Wilson, Billy Satterfield, and Sgt. Brian Dillard.
Rowena Brummell was born January 8, 1919 in Decatur to Norbett Apt and Mary Cates Moore. She married Gene Brummell on March 16, 1940 in Decatur, and they spent the last 67 years of their lives happily together till his passing in March of last year. Rowena graduated from Decatur High School and Decatur Baptist College as Valedictorian. She worked as a secretary for 22 years for the First United Methodist Church of Decatur. She was one of the first Girl Scout Leaders of Decatur as well as a past President of the Decatur Women's Club.
Left behind to cherish her memory is a son, James M. Brummell of Spring, Texas; 2 daughters, Nancy Boyd and Jan Brummell, both of Decatur; 4 grandchildren, Derrick Boyd, Crystal Boyd Klose, Nancy Dillard, and Caley Satterfield; 6 great-grandchildren, Emily and Ainsley Boyd, Kyndal and Trey Klose, and Brandon and Melany Dillard; and a host of friends.
