Decatur: Ruel Daniel Ray, 87, went to be with our Lord, Monday, November 29, 2010 in Bedford, Texas.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 1st at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jerry Stout officiating. Interment: Pleasant Grove Cemetery No. 1. Family will receive friends 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.
Pallbearers include Bryan Gillespie, Gus De La Cruz, Gary Braudaway, Michael Braudaway, David Braudaway and Bill Hatcher.
Ruel was born July 21, 1923 in Smithfield, Texas to Andrew and Josie Fry Ray. He married Margaret Lutz on December 3, 1939 in Fort Worth and was married 69 years at her death on April 30, 2008. Ruel retired from Star Tank Truck as foreman. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Chico post, a member of the First Baptist Church in Chico and he served in the United States Navy from 1942-1945.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Marietta Gillespie and husband, Marshall of Highland, Utah; son, Andrew Ray and wife, Carol of Arlington; two grandsons, Bryan Gillespie of Houston, Nathan Lucero of Fort Worth; two granddaughters, Lisa De La Cruz of Plano, Olivia Lucero of Fort Worth; and several nieces and nephews.
