Ruth Marie Gardner

Funeral is 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 13th at Grace Baptist Church with Dr. Van Gardner and Dr. Bill Hughes officiating. Interment: Pleasant Grove Cemetery No. 1. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home.

Pallbearers included Brett Gardner, Brian Paque, Steve Hunt, Nick Morris, Brad Barnett, Bill Spain and Don Spain. Honorary pallbearers include John Cody Gardner, Ezekiel Paque and Dewey Paque.

Ruth was born on December 2, 1921 in Decatur to Van Dewey and Jesse Lee (Parrish) Spain. She was united in marriage on December 15, 1945 to James Gardner and was married 63 years at his death on July 10, 2009. Ruth was a member of Grace Baptist and was a Sunday school teacher for over 60 years. She always had a large garden and she sold her garden produce at her stand that she maintained for years.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Shauna Paque and husband Brian; son, Van Gardner and wife Debbie all of Decatur; son, Steven Gardner and wife Cheryl of Bedford; daughter, Rebecca Davis; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; other family members and a host of friends.
