Samuel Rufus Mercer , Jr.

Samuel Rufus Mercer, Jr. 85, passed away on December 11, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Graveside service is 1pm Saturday December 14, 2024 for family and close friends at the Keeter Cemetery.

Officiant is Danny Russell. Honorary pallbearers will be Chance Herron and Bobby Lowe.

Junior was born February 26, 1939, in Keeter, Texas to Samuel Rufus Sr. and Ina Beatrice (Sanders) Mercer, where he spent his entire life. Junior married Catherine Elizabeth Creamer on June 18, 1989 at their residence in Keeter. He was a rough and rugged cowboy and dairy farmer. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work and dedication in all aspects of his life.

In his free time, Junior enjoyed his cows and his chickens, and his horses and was always eager to share his knowledge and stories with others.

Junior is proceeded in death by his parents, Samuel rufus Sr., and Ian Beatrice Mercer; sister, Gloria and brother -in-law Robert Davidson and brother-n-law Robert Oswald.

Junior is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Catherine Mercer; his children, Stephanie Carter and husband Kevin of Boyd and Corey Herron and wife Mary of Springtown; his grandchildren, Bobby Lowe and wife Holly of Springtown, Lacee Cooper and husband Sawyer of Springtown, Chance Herron and wife Kara of Canyon; great grand -children, Jaxon, Harper, Crew, and Bodi; his sister Vada Oswald, numerous nieces and nephew’s extended family members and a host of friends. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
