Runaway Bay ~ Sandra “Sandy” Gail Erwin, 83, went to be with our Lord Thursday, February 1, 2024, in Decatur.

Sandy was born on October 22, 1940, to RV and Violet (Garrett) Earles in Fort Worth. She was united in marriage to Don W. Erwin on March 10, 1961, in Wichita Falls where she raised her young kids while she worked at a dental practice in Wichita Falls. Sandy could tell stories about her life experiences and camping trips via old school photo albums (not from phones). We were a camping family growing up. Don and Sandy just loved to travel via camping. From tents, to pop up campers, to a real camper and then the big 5th wheel RV with slide outs. Some of our fondest memories are when we were at the Farm or Camping. She was such a wonderful woman to be around with her contagious laugh and the prettiest smile. Sandy was the Matriarch in our family for decades. She had an extraordinary life! Everything she did was for her family and community, never asking for anything. Her role as a mother is lovingly emphasized, sharing qualities of unconditional love, strength, and generosity that extended beyond her immediate family to encompass a wide network of loved ones. She was also an avid supporter of her community. Her entire reason for opening “The Bull Pen” was for her children who took part in sports back in the 70’s and 80’s. Our Mascot - “The Bridgeport Bulls”. After they graduated, she decided to open “Sandy’s Shirt Shop”, after a good run supporting her Sports teams. She returned where she started was a Dental Hygienist. Sandy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, a friend, and an avid supporter of her community. Sandy loved her family and spending time on the golf course with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, RV and Violet Earles; her granddaughter, Mandi McWhorter; and her sister, Judy Cooper.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 62 years, Don W. Erwin; her daughter, Lezlie (Erwin) Michael and husband Jim; her son, Eric Erwin and wife Joanna; her grandchildren, Ryan McWhorter and wife Brittney, Ashleigh Erwin, Wesley Erwin, and Johnnye Soles and husband Michael; her great-grandchildren, Phoenix and Penelope McWhorter; her nephews, Aaron Earles and wife Tisa and Cole Earles and wife Morgan; her brother, Bob Earles and wife Debbie; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to: The Bay Community Church Building fund, Runaway Bay Ladies Golf Association, or a charity of your choice.
