Wichita Falls - William B. "Scooter" Sellers, Jr., 58, a DPS communications supervisor went to be with our Lord, Sunday, January 2, 2011, in Wichita Falls.

Funeral: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Steve Stout officiating. Burial: Bowman Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4325 York Street, Wichita Falls. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.

Scooter was born March 8, 1952 to the late William B. and Irma Francis Kaker Sellers in Fort Worth, Texas. He was raised in Bridgeport, Texas and attended school there. He married Deborah Sue Rogers January 16, 1982 in Wichita Falls and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wichita Falls.

Scooter joined the Wichita Falls Texas Department of Public Safety, October 15, 1973, as a Communications Operator. In 1980, while on duty during the Wichita Falls tornado, his quick thinking and professionalism were honored with the Regional Commanders Award for his actions that day. April 1, 1980, he was promoted to Supervisor Police Communications Facility and assigned to Del Rio where he remained until September 1, 1980, when he transferred back to Wichita Falls.

Scooter was also awarded a Highway Patrol Division Chiefs award in 2009, for his actions that directly contributed to the breakup of a multiple state theft ring. He was also instrumental in creating a radio link with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol which allows for immediate contact between Texas DPS and OHP officers.

Scooter was a team leader for the DPS Communications Emergency Response Team and assigned numerous operations including Hurricane Ike. He was an instructor in various disciplines used by Communications Operators and well known in law enforcement for his knowledge and willingness to assist anyone at anytime.

Scooter was the most tenured Communications Supervisor in DPS with 37 years and 2 months, with 30 years and 8 months of that time as Supervisor.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Deborah Sue Sellers; his son; Timothy Jay Sellers; his daughter; Tiffany Lynn Sellers, all of Wichita Falls; his brother; Craig Sellers and wife Zannett of Bridgeport; his sisters, Jayne Cantwell and husband Allen of Plano, Jeyne Niblett and husband, Mike of Denton; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
