Shirley Faye (Sanford) Thompson

Decatur ~ Shirley Faye Thompson went to be with our Lord Monday, March 15, 2021. Funeral Service is 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Paradise with burial at DFW National Cemetery held at a later date. Family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Dr. Shawn Brewer will officiate. Pallbearers will include Tyler Tolbert, Chris Ray, Dillon Thompson, Heath Gentry, Jake McDaniel, Blasé Gentry, James Presley, and John Jurek.

Shirley was born February 16, 1936 to Robert and Margaret Ann (McCaskill) Sanford in Rockingham, North Carolina. She was united in marriage November 11, 1956 to John Kelton Thompson in Kingsland, Georgia. Shirley was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, who will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 64 years, John Kelton Thompson of Decatur; her daughters, Sharon Lancaster of Denton, Tammy Tolbert and husband James of Decatur, and Sandy McDaniel and husband Robert of Decatur; her son, John K. Thompson Jr. and wife Jean of Decatur; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
