Sidney Leon Hancock, Jr.

Decatur ~ Sidney Leon Hancock, Jr., 86 went to be with our Lord Sunday, May 5, 2019, in Decatur.

Funeral is 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Decatur with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Bro. Gerre Joiner will officiate. Pallbearers will include Andy Taylor, Barry Taylor, Cecil Campbell, Jerry Miller, Gary Roberts, and Rodney Roberts.

Sidney was born on December 28, 1932, to Sidney Leon and Martha Agatha (Roberts) Hancock, Sr. in Burkburnett, Texas. He was united in marriage to Wanda Ruth Malone on September 29, 1950, in Decatur. Sidney proudly served and retired from United States Air Force and owned and operated Sid’s Heating and Air until he and Ruth decided travel the country in their motor home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Decatur, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Grady Hancock; his sister, Winetta Morris; his sister in law, Alvina Hancock; his brothers in law, Albert Morris, and George T.  Roberts.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Wanda Ruth Hancock of Decatur; his daughter, Melissa Taylor and husband Jerry of Decatur; his grandchildren, Andy Taylor and wife Kim of Paradise, Barry Taylor and wife Meghan of Decatur, and Nicole Taylor of Decatur; his sister Lavell Roberts of Mineral Wells; his great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
