Decatur - On Saturday, May 2, 2020 Steve Grothe, a loving husband and father of two children, passed away at age 66.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
Steve was born on June 23, 1953 in Houston, Texas to Charles William and Ila Mae (Hampton) Grothe April 21, 1972. He married Nita Ann Cloud. They raised two daughters, Catherine and Amy in Irving, Texas.
Steve attended Irving High School and studied at the University of North Texas. Steve served on the Irving Fire Department for 31 years and lived in Decatur, Texas. He enjoyed wood working, being outdoors and traveling with Nita. Steve was known for his kind and compassionate spirit, his sense of humor, his strong work ethic, and his love of his family.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Brady Lee Hare.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Nita Grothe of Decatur; his two daughters, Catherine Gatz and husband Steven of Mansfield and Amy Collett and husband Jeremy of Illinois; his four grandchildren, Carter and Hudson Gatz, Ethan Grothe, and Ashton Hutchins; his niece Audrey Figarova; and a host of friends.
The family has designated the Parkland Foundation (Burn Center) for memorial contributions.
