Chico ~ Tom Y. Stephens, 92, a retired postmaster, went to be with our Lord Saturday, April 19, 2014 in Decatur.
Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Chico with burial in Chico Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
Rev. Rick Davis will officiate. Pallbearers include Stephen Martin, Brad Stephens, Jared Scobee, Paul Wombles, Donnie Stephens, and Tommy Nichols.
Tom was born on July 23, 1921 to Sydney and Lola (Young) Stephens in Lubbock. He was united in marriage to Melba Meek on January 1, 1941 in Waurika, Oklahoma. Tom was the postmaster for Grapevine Post Office. He was a member of the Morris Memorial Methodist Church in Chico and a member of the Lions Club of Grapevine. Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 73 years, Melba Stephens of Chico; his daughters, Jeana Wilt and husband Todd of Chico, Jo Ann Scobee and husband Mike of Runaway Bay; his sons, Tommy Y. Stephens Jr. and wife Shari of Fredericksburg, Jerry Stephens of Chico; his grandchildren, Stephen, Lisa, Brad, Megan, and Jared; 11 great- grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
