Chico ~ Toni McMurtry, 80, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, May 1, 2024 in Decatur.
Funeral is 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 9th, at Morris Memorial Methodist Church with burial at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 10th, at Texline Cemetery in Texline, Texas. Family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Toni was born on February 22, 1944 to Lee and Clyette (Cowser) McMurtry in Tulia. She was a standout student and star basketball player. Let her tell the story, “I averaged over 30 pts/game and that was before the three-point line. If I’d had that, it’d been over 50 pts/game!!” Toni was a force to be reckoned with in anything she got involved with. She worked from a secretary position, to being the district sales manager for a major oil & gas corporation. She recently retired from 12 years as an independent insurance adjuster and had previously owned a Farmers Insurance Agency in Chico for 25 years. She was an AVID Dallas Mavericks fan and would be in her chair watching, from whistle to whistle. She helped anyone who needed it and was always smiling. She lit up a room with her smile. Toni was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and a friend to many that will miss her dearly, especially Mia and Scooter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Clyette McMurtry; her siblings, Mary Faith Merchant, Lee Helvey McMurtry II, Lou Bell Voight, and Johnny Bob McMurtry.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Bryan Gray of Arlington, and Dana Gray of Iowa Park, and Jon David Gray and wife Betty of Irving; her brother, Boyd McMurtry of Smyrna, Tennessee; her grandchildren, Tanner Duncan Gray and wife Emily of Haslet, E-4 Senior Airman Andrew Eastep and wife Mackenzie of Anchorage, Alaska, and Taybor Lee Eastep of Stephenville; 3 great-grandchildren, Witten Duncan Gray, Bowen James Gray, and Parker Kate Eastep; her husband of 20 years, Bobby Joe Gray of Lakeside City; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
