Tyce Lamar Simmons, aged 80, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2024, in Runaway Bay, Texas.

Born on April 1, 1944, Tyce grew up with a strong sense of duty and patriotism, which led him to join the Army at a young age. His distinguished military career spanned over two decades completing multiple tours in Vietnam and Desert Storm earning numerous commendations for his bravery, leadership, and sacrifice. Upon retiring from the Army, Tyce enjoyed a more peaceful life, focusing on family, his deep passion of cars, ‘Friday Follies’ with friends, and as a respected mayor for Runaway Bay.

Major Simmons will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his country, his resilient spirit, and the profound impact he had on those who knew him. His legacy of service and sacrifice will live on through his family and the countless lives he touched throughout his life.

Tyce was preceded in death his parents Margaret Tice Simmons and father Fred Simmons; brother Jimmy Simmons, sister Deborah Edwards, brother Terry Simmons.

Tyce cherished the time spent with his family, offering wisdom and support to those he loved dearly, his loving wife, Beverly Simmons; brother Tony Simmons (Charlene Simmons), sister Mitzi Martin (David Martin); Children Tim Bowman (Tiffany Bowman), Ashley Barr (Jason Barr), and Marcus Bowman (Meghan Bowman); nephew Steve Simmons (Veronica Simmons); and his grandchildren Josh Bowman, Kiera Barr, Zach Bowman, Tori Bowman, Chloe Barr, Caden Bowman, Nolan Bowman, Cora Jo Bowman; and great grand-daughter Celeste Bowman and numerous other nephews and nieces.

Celebration of Life is 5:00 p.m. Friday at Runaway Bay Event Center with burial at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 16th, at DFW National Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a veteran's charity of your choice, in memory of Tyce Simmons.
