Van Sammy Winkle

Memorial service is 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2011 at U-Turn World Ministries, 557 South Allen (730 South), Boyd, Texas with Pastor Kevin Alexander officiating.

Sammy was born March 4, 1957 to Hubert and Francis (Johnston) Winkle in New Orleans, Louisiana. He served his country in the United States Navy.

Sammy was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Edward Wesley Winkle.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Stephanie Derenthal and husband Jeff of Florida; his son, Christopher Winkle of Florida; his granddaughter, Avery Derenthal; his sister, T.K. Sampson and husband Tommy of Boyd; his brothers, Perry Winkle and wife Deane of Colleyville, Roger Winkle and wife Libby of Washington, Georgia and Bobby Smith and wife Sheila of Longview; his companion, Pam Snyder of Rhome; other relatives and a host of friends.

Not sure if you can let the family know at the services, but his Son Christopher and Daughter Stephanie are sorry to hear that their father had passed away and that even though time and distance was all we had together that he will always be our father and have a special place in our lives and heart forever.

Sammy was a special person to me also, for being in my life thru marriage and giving me the best two gifts in the world that anyone can ever have. I will always cherish him for that. Travelin Man by Bob Seger was a song that he had lived up to and will always bring tears to my eyes that will remind me of him forever. "Up with the Sun, Gone With the wind..."

Thank you if you can share these condolences for Van and his family due to we will not be able to attend his service.
