Boyd---Velma Roberta Newton, 71, a retired certified nurse's aide, died Sunday, May 8, 2005, in Decatur. Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church #2. Burial: Lone Star Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband Jackie Gerald Newton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund and the American Cancer Society. Survivors: Sons, Johnnie Watson and wife Yvonne of Corpus Christi, Darrell Lee Nelon Jr. and wife Maria of Irving; daughters, Roberta Monette Gillespie and husband John of Alba, Patricia Ann Sanders and husband Johnny of Boyd; stepchildren, David Newton and wife Marsha of Stephenville, Nancy Johnston and husband Jimmy of Alvarado; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 nephews and a host of friends.
