Verda Lee (Williams) Harvey

Decatur ~ Verda Lee Harvey, 95, went to her heavenly home Sunday, October 23, 2022.

Graveside Service is 12 Noon, October 27, 2022 at Starr Cemetery in Canton, Texas, Van Zandt County. Family will receive friends 6-8 PM Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Fred Raney will officiate.

Verda Lee Harvey was born October 17, 1927 to G.W. and Verda Mae (Davlin) Williams in Grand Saline, Texas. She was united in marriage April 16, 1945 to Walter Charles Harvey, Sr. in Mineola, Texas. Verda like a lot of people grew up during a period of economic hardships. Though her education ended abruptly due to the unexpected death of her mother, her thirst for knowledge led her to a lifelong love of reading. During her spare time Verda also loved to cook, quilt, and she did exquisite embroidery work which she shared with her family. Verda ran a daycare in her home in Decatur for many years, where she touched many lives. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, friend and confidant to many who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, G.W. and Verda Williams; her husband Walter Charles “Dock” Harvey; 3 sisters, and 3 brothers; 1 infant daughter, Linda; 1 grandson, Ronny Young; and 1 great-grandson, Jordan Young.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Charles Harvey, Jr. and wife Janece of Conway; her 3 daughters, Brenda Young and husband Bobby of Huntsville, Glenda Harvey and husband Dan of Decatur, and Lelinda Jenkins and husband Fred of Decatur; 8 grandchildren, Rodney Young of Merithon, Florida, Robert Young of Huntsville, Lori Hyden of Claremore, Oklahoma, Chad Harvey of Decatur, Renae Brown of Conway, Sideanna Underwood of The Colony, Anna Giles of Runaway Bay,  and Nathan Sherman of Decatur; extended family members and a host of friends.
