Vern E. Whatley

January 31, 1939 — December 4, 2015

Bedford ~ Vern E. Whatley, 76, formerly of Chico, went to be with our Lord Friday, December 4, 2015 in Bedford.

Funeral is 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 7, 2015 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial in Cumby Cemetery. Family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Rev. Gary Demmitt will officiate. Pallbearers include Sammy Shipman, Les Cooper, Dax Cooper, Chuck Whatley, Benny Begley, and Jimmy Whatley.

Vern was born on January 31, 1939 to Joe and Oveta (Alexander) Whatley in Decatur, Texas. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Vern was an iron worker for Smith Erectors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jimmy Lee Whatley; and his sister, Linda Darlene Burris.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Keith Whatley of Porter, Texas; his daughters, Tammy Foree and husband Norman of Bedford, Teresa Folsom of Humble, Texas, and Sandra Whatley of New Caney, Texas; his son, Jimmy Whatley of Alexandria, Louisiana;  17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Bertie Ousley of Paradise, Jody Cooper of Bridgeport,and Judy Begley and husband Butch of Fort Worth; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and a host of friends.
