DECATUR: Vern Lee "Curly" Young, 87, a retired Dairyman died Friday, July 8, 2011 in Decatur, Texas.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 12, at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Chapel with burial in Pleasant Grove #1 Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers include Matt Picha, Mike Picha, Larry Wayne Milligan, Butch Young, Rodney Lisby, Danny White and Dusty Young.
Curly was born on March 2, 1924 in Fletcher, Oklahoma to Omer and Emma Iona (Walker) Young. He married Doris Ida Pizzica on March 13, 1946 in Decatur, Texas. He was a World War II Veteran and former Texas State Champion of Golden Glove Boxing in 1942.
Left behind to cherish his memory are 2 sons, Gordon Young of Decatur, and Verl Eugene Young of Denton; 4 grandchildren, Shane, Stormie, Deana, and Kimberly; 7 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Doris Ida Young; 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
