Decatur: Vernell Perkins, 95, a homemaker, went to be with our Lord, Friday, October 28, 2011 in Decatur.
Graveside service is 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 1st at Oaklawn Cemetery with Reverend Mark Ogle officiating. Family will receive friends 10am-12pm Tuesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home.
Vernell was born August 9, 1916 in Decatur, Texas to Roland Houston and Ollie (Young) Phillips. She was united in marriage to Gordon Perkins on April 15, 1934 in Waurika, Oklahoma and was married 65 years at his death on January 21, 2000.
Vernell is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Garry Perkins; 3 brothers, Paschal, Verl, and Ray Phillips; 3 sisters, Floy Isreal, Willie Mae Dickson and Joyce Orr.
Left behind to cherish her memory are son, Max Perkins and wife Caroline of Fort Worth; daughter-in-law, Marcy Perkins of Decatur; 6 grandchildren, Courtney Johnson and husband Cliff, Steven Perkins and wife Laura, Dan Perkins and wife Lisa, John Perkins and wife Darby, Josh Perkins and wife Mary, and Jamie Milliman and husband Rit; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Decatur, Texas.
