Vernie Eugene "Gene" Edwards

Bridgeport~ Vernie Eugene “Gene” Edwards, 91, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, May 26, 2022 in Decatur, Texas.
Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 1st, 2022 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial to follow in Paradise Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6:00- 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will include Danny Waldo, Doug Waldo, Hunter Skiles, Larry Hickey, Jason Edwards, Blake Edwards, Adonis Carcamo, and Sam Adams.
Gene was born on August 15, 1930 to George and Pearl (Hallock) Edwards in Anadarko, Oklahoma. He worked as a shift foreman for Michell Energy and retired after 27 years. Gene was united in marriage to Bonnie Lee Adams on June 17, 1949 in Cyril, Oklahoma. He loved his lord, his family and his country. Gene cherished his time with his family, he loved playing dominos and listening to Blue Grass Music. He was a loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, and brother, and he will be missed beyond measure by those that loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Bonnie Edwards; his son, Billy Gene Edwards; his grandchild, Niki Faye Edwards, his great-grandchild, Jake Walkup; and his daughter-in-law, Shirley Edwards.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his sons, Ronnie Edwards of Bridgeport, Terry Edwards of Argyle, Donnie Edwards and wife Anita of Bowie, and his daughter-in-law, Rhonda Edwards of Paradise; his grandchildren, Trena Gilfert and husband Chris, Jason Edwards and wife Misty, Blake Edwards, Chelsey Skiles and husband Hunter, Lynzi Carcamo and husband Adonis, Jenni Graniczny and husband Joseph and Kim Ough; his great-grandchildren, Jax, Luci, Marissa, Shelby, Chloe, Lokesh, Christi, Milton, Piper, Monte, Connor, Braisey and Chelcy; his great-great-grandchildren, Aubree, Liam, and Nash; his sister, Peggy Waldo and husband, Jack of Duncan, Oklahoma; numerous extended family members and a host of friends and neighbors.
