Alvord ~ Vernon Don Barrett, 68, a retired machinist for Halliburton Energy Services completed his journey of faith, Saturday, October 22, 2016 in Alvord, Texas.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur. Family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur. Billy Wayne Blakeney and Veronica Greanead will officiate.
Honorary Pallbearers include Jasper Neilsen, John Peterson, Arnaldo Rodriguez, Charlie French, Larry Foreman, Michael Wayne Riddle, Michael McAlister, and Doug Munson.
Vernon Don was born February 10, 1948 to Vernon Ray and Dovie (Eastham) Barrett in Lamesa, Texas. He married Kerry Blakeney on May 16, 1987 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Vernon Don proudly served his country in the United States Army in the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. He served as the Alvord Chamber of Commerce President and was on the Alvord Planning Committee recently. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Alvord where he also sang in the choir.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Kerry Barrett of Alvord; daughter, Ruth Dana Brooks of Grapevine; son, Blakeney Ray Barrett of Alvord; grandson, Dustin Brooks; 6 nephews, 1 niece, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters, Dovie Ray Maupin, Joyce Daniels, Linnie Fair, and Ruth Wynell Barrett.
