Runaway Bay ~ Vernon H. Slocomb Jr., 77, a retired United States Air Force Master Sergeant and real estate broker, went to be with our Lord Saturday, November 7, 2015 in Bridgeport.

Entombment Service is 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2015 at Greenwood Mausoleum in Fort Worth. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Bro. Marvin Balch will officiate. Honorary pallbearers include Don Erwin, Frank Trail, Dan Ticer, Leon Farmer, Charles Todd, Robert Jackson, Hank Gallardo, Wallace Holcomb, Ken Kilpatrick, Rollins Bilby, Adney Stowe, and Rob Rayner.

Vernon was born on July 11, 1938 to Vernon Sr. and Juanita (Burt) Slocomb in Abilene, Texas. He was united in marriage to Beverly Jeane Balch on March 6, 1959 in Fort Worth. Vernon proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years and served in the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, he became a real estate broker for Bay Port Real Estate. Vernon served on the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Texas Association of Realtors. Vernon was certified as a real estate instructor. He was a past president of the Wise County Association of Realtors. Vernon was a member the VFW, Bridgeport Lion Club, and the GWFR.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 45 years, Jeane Balch Slocomb.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Sandra Slocomb Ford and husband Keith of Runaway Bay, Nancy Slocomb Eaton and husband Billy of Runaway Bay; his grandchildren, twins-Kaitlyn and Parker Eaton, Billy Eaton III and wife Brittany, Lacy Brown and husband Cody; his great-grandchild, Carden Brown; his sister, Kay White and husband Joe of Clovis, New Mexico; his brother, Stephen Slocomb and wife Kathy of Fort Worth; other family members and a host of friends.
