Veta Joyce Jackson

Bridgeport ~ Veta Joyce Jackson, 84, formerly of Bridgeport, went to be with our Lord Tuesday, January 15, 2019, in Summerville, South Carolina.

Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2019, at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with private family burial. Family will receive friends 1-6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home in Bridgeport.

Pastor J.D. Allen will officiate. Pallbearers include Gary Bollom, Rick Spence, Nathan Owen, Garrett Bollom, Chad Clark, Sam Renner, Ben Tucker, and Travis Flowers. Honorary pallbearer is Hayden Renner.

Veta was born on April 19, 1934, to Claude and Pauline (Harris) Alexander in Duncan, Oklahoma. She was united in marriage to Ronald “Ronnie” Jackson on January 23, 1999, in Bridgeport. Veta worked in Inspection Services for FEMA. She loved to sing and led the music at Cates Street Baptist Church where she was a member.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her son, A. Brock Owen; her great-grandson, Taylor Owen; her brother, Clyde Alexander; and her sister-in-law, Bonnie Alexander.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Paula Spence, Denise Bollom and husband Gary, and Elizabeth “Lizz” Owen Godsey; her grandchildren, Devon and Hal Herron, Tiffany Renner, Nathan Owen and fiancé Rhonda Meredith, Garrett and Brittany Bollom; her great-grandchildren, Mallory Owen Renner, Sam and Hayden Renner, Hayes Bollom, and Bradley Meredith; her sister, Claudia Woodward; her cousin, Cynthia Bantau Tucker; numerous other cousins, family members, and a host of friends.
