Decatur: Virgil "Sonny" Loyd, 68, went to be with our Lord, Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in Decatur.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday, December 31st at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bill Hughes and Glen Kersey officiating. Burial will follow service in Bethel Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers include Wendell Cauthen, Don Brown, Sam Britt, Bill C. Kersey, Shane Brown and Weldon Cauthen.
Born January 10, 1941 to Virgil and Myrtle Rosenburg Loyd, Sr. in Decatur, Texas. Sonny married Marjorie Reynolds on May 30, 1961 in Bridgeport. He was a truck driver, served in the United States Army and was a member of Bell Baptist Church in Decatur.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Marjorie Loyd of Decatur; son, Lawrence "Larry" Loyd of Decatur; granddaughter, Shallie Tierce and husband, Logan of Cottondale; great grandson, Trapper Tierce; brother, Billy Gene Grundy and wife, Renna of Decatur; four sisters, Mildred Cauthen and husband, Weldon of Decatur, Martha Lindsay and husband, Jack of Oklahoma City, Alice Lawson and husband, Butch of Runaway Bay, and Kay Davis and husband, James of Slidell.
Sonny is preceded in death by parents, brother, J.T. Loyd; two sisters, Melba Raye Schroeder and Mary Lou McCandless.
