Alvord~ Virgil Vernon Ruddick, 84, heard the words “well done my good and faithful servant” on Monday November 9, 2020 while residing at The Stage Coach Medical Lodge in Bridgeport, Texas.
Graveside Service for Virgil Vernon Ruddick, 84, of Alvord is 2:00 p.m. Sunday November 15, 2020 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery #3. Family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. on Saturday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport.
Rev. Tim Jenkins and Dr. Dale Ruddick will officiate. Pallbearers are to include Jordan Chandler, Kaleb Purkins, Kolton Purkins, Curtis Buckner, Dustan Fennell and Matt Hollien.
Vernon was born August 9, 1936 to Virgil and Dorothy Ruddick as the oldest of 13 children in Port Lavaca, Texas. He worked most of his life as a truck driver delivering mobile homes and traveling across the country. He served in the ministry for most of his life. Prior to retirement, he worked for Got to Go Solutions in Chico, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Mephibosheth Ruddick, infant son, Jerry Ruddick, grandson, Ryan Ruddick, great-grandson, Maverick Hollien, his mother, Dorothy Rea Ruddick, his father, Virgil Owen Ruddick, his sister, Marie Cude and her husband James, his sister, Myrtle Dulaney and her husband Doug, and sister-in-law, Elaine Ruddick.
He married Shelba Pate Ruddick on June 13, 1962 and again on June 30, 1962. They moved to Alvord Texas in 1969.
Those left behind to cherish their memory are his wife of 58 yrs, his children, Noel Ruddick and wife LeeAnn of Chico, Texas, Wesley Ruddick and wife Donna of Alvord, Texas, Marie Ruddick and Randy Potter of Decatur, Texas, Andi Purkins and husband Randy of Nevada, Texas and Terry Ruddick and wife Tonie of New Braunfels, Texas; his 12 grandchildren, Whitney Buckner and Curtis, Jordan Chandler and Alex, Shelbie Chandler and Kalyb, Cheyanne Fennell and Dustan, Katlin Hollien and Matt, Kaleb & Kolton Purkins, Cassie Skinner and Colt, Sarah Martin, Tarah, Jason, Shannon and Austin Ruddick; his 17 great-grand-children; He is survived by 6 brothers & 3 sisters: Edward Ruddick and Elwanda, Marla Patterson and Earnie, John Ruddick and Theresa, Royce Ruddick and Gale, all of Alvord Texas, Judy Patterson and Ray of Bowie, Texas, Donnie Ruddick and Katrina of Bridgeport, Texas, Dale Ruddick and Cindy of Blytheville, Arkansas, Everette Ruddick and Debbie of Victoria Texas, Marilyn Pope and Burnie of Jacksonville, North Carolina; several cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a faithful servant of God and prior to his illness he attended several churches: Victory Family Church in Decatur, Father’s House Church in Decatur and Voice of Triumph Assembly of God in Sunset. Vernon loved the Lord and he never met a stranger that he didn’t tell of God’s goodness. He was not only our earthly father but a spiritual father and brother, to us and so many more. He is known by his Faith in God, his hugs, his shenanigans and he would want you to know these 3 words “I AM BLESSED”.
