Wanda Jean Elenburg

Bridgeport~ Wanda Jean Elenburg, 89, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024 in Bridgeport.

Graveside Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 1st, 2024 at Oakwood Cemetery in Jacksboro. Family will receive friends Thursday 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Tony Elenburg and Eugene Weldon will officiate. Pallbearers are Kagen Elenburg, Lane Elenburg, Gunter Elenburg, Kane Elenburg, Blake Bowen, and Mike Thornton. Honorary Pallbearers to include Wes Karasek, Joe McCoy, Coby Myers, Carl Smith, Barry Tarp, Jake Gornbein, and Gene Bolton.

Jean was born on January 26, 1935 to Les Travis and Ethel (McCoy) Nichols in Jacksonville, Texas.  She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Henry “Possum” Elenburg on June 14, 1957 in Gainesville and were together 62 wonderful years before his passing on April 5th, 2020. Jean was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and devoted to taking care of her family, always putting them first.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Les and Ethel Nichols; her husband, Henry “Possum” Elenburg; her daughter-in-law, Sylvia Elenburg; and her brother, Don “Nick” Nichols.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, Brad Elenburg and wife Carolyne of Bridgeport, Bryan Elenburg and wife Loretta of Bridgeport and Kirby Elenburg of Runaway Bay; her grandchildren, Lorren Tarp and husband Barry, Lane Elenburg and wife Misty, Kagen Elenburg and wife BreAnne, Gunter Elenburg and wife Kendra, Keili Gornbein and husband Jake, and Kane Elenburg and wife Allie; 19 great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Phyllis Elenburg; her sister-in-law’s, Vicki Nichols and Sue Elenburg; close family friends, Julie Cortez and Barbara Mullins; numerous extended family members and a host of friends.
