Wayne P. Burchfield, Sr., 96 went to be with our Lord on Sunday  September 1, 2024 in Saginaw, Texas.

Funeral Service is 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 6th, at First Baptist Church in Boyd with burial at Aurora Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Wayne was born on March 3, 1928 in Harrold, Texas to Charlie Edward Burchfield and Edith Pearl Burchfield. He was united in marriage to Faye LaVerne Hatley on December 24, 1951 in Vernon, Texas, a marriage of 72 years.

Wayne was a veteran and served our country in the United States Air Force for four years attaining the rank of technical sergeant. He was stationed in Germany and participated in the Berlin Airlift operation working for long hours, seven days a week to keep the airplanes in the air delivering food and supplies to the free people in the U.S. controlled sector of Berlin after the Soviet Union had closed all land access.

Other than his time in the military, Wayne was a lifelong resident of Wise County, Texas. Wayne was a welder by trade but always referred to himself as a farmer. Some would say he was a welder with a farming habit. He worked for Bell Helicopter Textron for thirty- six years. In 1960, with the assistance of a Texas Veterans Land Board loan he acquired 40 acres of farmland from Mr. Stevens and adjoined the acreage owned by his father, Charlie Burchfield. Over the years, he expanded on his original purchase and added another 38 acres that was adjacent to the original 40 acres giving him 78 acres. For the 64 years that he owned his land, his labor of love was to work diligently to improve it and make it productive. Those that knew him agree that his engineering I.Q. must have been off the charts. His mind and body never stopped working on the multiple projects and sideline businesses that he would always be juggling.

Wayne fiercely loved his family, his friends, his community and his neighbors. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Glen Burchfield, his sisters, Dorothy Barton, Murline Tarrant, and Billie Turner.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 72 years, Faye Burchfield; daughters, Patricia Hopkins and husband Minor and Dorothy Shepherd and husband Kenny; his son Wayne P. Burchfield, Jr.; his grandchildren, Brandon Hopkins, Mandy Hopkins Hays, Karrie Morman, Kenneth Shepherd, Justin Shepherd, Erin Schramm, Joshua Burchfield, Sean Corbett, along with sixteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors. Military honors will be provided  by the Wise County Veterans Group.
