Decatur: Wayne Garrett, 91, went to be with our Lord, Tuesday, October 4, 2011 in Decatur.
Graveside service is 2 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Oaklawn Cemetery with Chaplin Burl Pedigo officiating. No set visitation is scheduled.
Wayne was born July 20, 1920 in San Augustine, Texas, to William Gilbert and Annie Love (Thacker) Garrett. He married Alice Lorene Wood on August 13, 1938 in Bridgeport, Texas. He retired after over 40 years of service from Avondale Shipyards in Louisiana as superintendent.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 73 years, Lorene Garrett of Decatur; son, James Ray Garrett and wife Karen of Decatur; daughter, Paulette McCormick and husband John of Decatur; two brothers, Melton Garrett of Dallas, Kirksey Garrett of Metairie, Louisiana; three sisters, Anita Starnes of Fort Worth, Vernell Roe of Cleburne, LaJuana Ryan of Fort Worth; three grandchildren, Brad McCormick, Todd McCormick and wife Angie, and Tiffany Garrett; and four great grandchildren, Colton, Brandon, Jack and Allie McCormick.
