Bridgeport ~ Wayne Harveson, 83, a retired banker with over 50 years in the business, went to be with our Lord, March 30, 2019.
Memorial service was11:00 a.m. Monday, April 22, at the Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport. Officiating will be Rev. Lucia McKee Kremzar and Rev. Laurie Harveson Barker.
Wayne was born January 19, 1936 to Charles and Thelma Ellen (Cullen) Harveson in Houston. He was united in marriage June 27, 1959 to Maralyn (Martin) in Abilene. Wayne proudly served our country in the United States Army. Wayne graduated Trinity University before entering into the banking business. He was honored in 2010 for his 50 years in the banking business, also named Citizen of the Year by the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce in the 1980’s.
Wayne was heavily involved in the Wise County United Way and Special Olympics. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport, Wayne was ordained both as an elder and a deacon in the Presbyterian Church USA, a member for over 46 years. He served regular 3 year terms on the session and/ or as the Clerk of Session for most of the 46 years. Before that, he served as an active elder or deacon in churches in Dallas and Monahans.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Lloyd and C.V. Harveson Jr.; his sisters, Joyce Spann and Mignon Messchkat.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Maralyn (Martin) Harveson of Bridgeport; his sons, Dr. Robert “Bob” Harveson and wife Tammy of Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Tony Harveson of Bridgeport; his daughter, Rev. Laurie Barker and husband Rev. James Barker of Junction; his 6 grandchildren, Abby, Anna, Keaton, Emily, Zane and Mignon; numerous, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
