Wayne was born December 29, 1929 int Wayside, Oklahoma to Vernice and Zora (Ratcliff) Merrell. He married Theda McMurrey on September 1, 1949 in Beeville, Texas.

Left behind to cherish his memory are 2 sons, David Merrell of Cottondale and Arvin Merrell and wife Helen of Aledo; 1 daughter, Brenda Goode and husband Tim of Houston; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 1 twin brother; 3 sisters; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Theda Merrell, and 2 brothers.
