Decatur~ William “Tubo” Thomas Edwards, 78, a retired mechanical contractor, passed away after a lengthy battle with pneumonia in Decatur, Texas on Friday, December 13, 2019. Service will be held at a later date at the DFW National Cemetery.
Tubo was born on December 28th, 1940 to Merle A. and Mildred J. (Schoonover) Edwards. He was a life long resident of Monroe, Louisiana.
He was united in marriage to Ruby J. Mathis and they had 3 children. Together they opened their home to their first grandchild, Alexander Lashley, and raised him as their own. Tubo maintained his interest in Alex and often sacrificed himself to ensure Alex was afforded every opportunity available to a special need’s child.
Tubo was a member of the First Christian Church in Monroe, Louisiana. He played football at Neville High School, The United States Army, and Northeast Louisiana University. He was an avid outdoorsman, and he spent many mornings duck hunting with his lifelong friends. He was a wonderful father and a good-hearted person. He will be missed dearly by all that knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his great grandfather Napoleon Bonaparte Smaltz whom they affectionately called “Bony”, his parents; his grandson, Alexander Hale Lashley, and his sister; Barbara Kay Rogers; and brother in law, Roger Bowman
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughters; Beverly Marie Edwards, of Baton Rouge Louisiana, Mildred Shalane Edwards Page, of West Monroe, Louisiana, his son; Travis W. Edwards of Runaway Bay, his sister; Beverly Aileen Bowman Simmons of Runaway Bay, mother of his children; Ruby Jeanette Edwards of Tallulah, Louisiana, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of good friends.
