William Robert "Bill" Sandford, Jr.

William Robert “Bill” Sandford, Jr. passed into his heavenly home on February 24, 2022. He is preceded in death by his father William Robert Sandford, Sr. and his mother, Lou Lenore McCartney.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 28, at Crossroads Church in Decatur with Darren Embree officiating.  Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jack D. Sandford, Ben Sandford, Jesse King, Ethan King, Samuel King, Alden Sandford, Jack N. Sandford, Luke Sandford, Bodie Cole, Jacob Maxon, Tyler Mayfield, Ethan Sij, and Mason Baker.

Bill was born on July 30, 1940 in Oklahoma City to Lou Lenore McCartney and William Robert Sandford, Sr. He grew up in Oklahoma City until moving to San Antonio, Tx. Where he attended Thomas Jefferson High School and became known as Billy Bob Sandford. He received his Associate Degree from Tarleton University, where he was in the R.O.T.C., was the president of the student body and met the love of his life, Sally Ann Moore. Bill and Sally eloped to Weatherford, Tx. on May 26, 1960. Bill continued his education to receive a Bachelor of Business Degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1962, where he was selected as Outstanding Senior Marketing Student with scholarships from Zales Jewelry Corporation. He had a distinguished career in commercial real estate, where he became the managing partner of Jack Pogue & Company in Dallas for 16 years and later starting his own investment firm.

At the age of 33, Bill became a Christian and his faith continued to be an integral part of his life. He organized the Dallas Christian Mens Club for businessmen to come together to share their faith, served as a board member for the Criswell Foundation, Criswell College, Criswell Bible Institute. Locally, he served on the Decatur School Board for 13 years and as president for almost half of those years, was instrumental in establishing FCA in Decatur, Chairman of the Administrative Board of First Methodist Church, elder at Crossroads Church and member of New Hope Fellowship. He had a passion for church planting and seeing the Great Commission fulfilled in foreign lands. Bill served on the Board of Directors for Here’s Life Africa and was the President from 2008-2012. He also served on the Eastern European Seminary Board taking numerous trips into Communist Eastern Europe where he taught pastors in the underground church of Eastern Europe. In the last decade of his life he dedicated himself to prison ministry, sharing God’s Word and discipling incarcerated men. Also, in his later years, he loved the Kingdom Men Ministry in Decatur where men and pastors of all denominations come together to study, fellowship and serve as one body.

Bill is survived by his wife Sally, of 62 years, and his children, Blake Sandford and wife Carole of Greenwood, Stacey Rhine and husband Curtis, Susan Parks and husband Todd, and Andrew Sandford and wife Stacey, all of Decatur; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Bill was a devoted family man and was surrounded by loved ones until his passing into the hands of His Savior, Jesus Christ.
